Dr. Fabricio Tocco is a Lecturer in Spanish and the Portuguese Convenor at the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, in the Australian National University. His research deals with the intersections of literature, film and history, especially the way popular genres inform and are informed by literary and political theory in Latin American cultural studies. His first monograph, Latin American Detectives against Power (Lexington Books, 2022), examines the tensions between and the representations of individualism, the state and failure in Brazilian, Argentine, Chilean and Mexican twentieth-century detective stories. His research has appeared in the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Research, and Chasqui. Revista de literatura latinoamericana. He is currently working on his forthcoming book, Precarious Secrets. A History of the Latin American Political Thriller.
